As a Mom to 4 myself, I know things don’t always go as planned. Leah and Jeff had a great birth plan all laid out and everyone was on board to execute this plan as smoothly as possible but little Lincoln had other plans. From waiting until past his due date to making his unhappiness during labor known to all, it was going to be his way.
This family is more than just clients to me, they are now like family and it was an honor and privilege to not just be there to document this amazing life changing moment but to help them along in any way I could. Throughout the day when nurses would quickly come in and shift her from one side to the other to try and calm the baby down or when they would check her and no real progress was being made I tried to talk her through it and explain things in a way that made sense to her in the state of anxiety and stress she was in. When the talks of C-Section came up I could see how terrified Leah was all I wanted to do was try to calm her down and assure her she was in good hands and they would take care of her and she would soon be meeting the love of her life!!
When all was said and done, Mr. Lincoln made his appearance in grand fashion with the cord around his neck, which is why her labor stalled out. Even though they wouldn’t let me back in the operating room a friend who works at the hospital let me back to take photos of his first bath and first moments with Grandmothers and then the first time Leah got to see him up close in a somewhat clear state of mind.
Although nothing went as planned the end result is a beautiful healthy boy who has completely stolen the hearts of all who’ve met him.
